The Battles of Lexington and Concord

The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first battles that started the revolutionary
war against the British. After the Boston Tea Party, the colonists were still in rebellion
against the British. They created the Massachusetts Provincial Congress, which was very
effective in letting people know to prepare for war and in governing the Massachusetts citizens.
Somewhere around seven hundred British soldiers, under Lieutenant colonel Francis smith had
been ordered to secretly take the supplies of the colonial military. The colonies however,
had found out about this long before they planned to make the move. They informed the colonial
military about it, and they signaled each other with lamps by a church as to where they were
coming from. They had already moved some of the supplies to different locations, but regardless
they protected the rest. The colonists did receive more casualties than the British (eight to one),
but the colonists had won. After this the British started searching for the supplies in concord,
but they engaged in more battle with the colonists at North Bridge. In retreat, the British started
toward Boston, and after having received more supplies, they were able to come to the safety of
Charlestown. This was also how the siege of Boston was started.
