The Battle of Bunker Hill

The Battle of Bunker Hill was fought in the early part of the revolutionary war, during
the siege of Boston. The colonists had received information that the British would attempt
to take control of the hills surrounding Boston, such as Bunker hill and Breed's hill. If
they were to succeed then the British would have been able to take over Boston harbor.
The colonists responded to this by building a small fort outside of boston in the night,
and brought with them one thousand two hundred troops. When the British woke up and saw
the colonists near Bunker Hill, they decided to attack the colonists that very same day.
It was a very brutal battle, with the British striking first, although the British received
many more casualties than the colonies received. The British were still strong however, and
they gained control of the land while still allowing the colonists to retreat. Thanks to
the casualties that the British received during the battle, they learned to be much more
careful with planning in war. This actually ended up helping the colonists as it allowed
them to retreat easier when necessary. In total, the British received one thousand fifty
four casualties, compared to four hundred fifty on the colonial side, which shows that
although the British won, it might not have helped them.
